They are the only people authorised to give a proper receipt and discharge to executors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Legacies for the specific benefit of a particular country should still be sent to Witney. The Legacy Officer will, of course, make sure that the funds are restricted for that country or purpose specified in the Will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Barclays Account<\/strong><br><strong>Account Name:<\/strong>&nbsp;Open Doors with Brother Andrew<br><strong>Sort Code:<\/strong>&nbsp;20-97-55<br><strong>Account no:<\/strong>&nbsp;23864790<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please could you add the name of the deceased person as the reference so that we can identify and allocate the payment correctly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Payment by BACS is preferable, but we understand there will be a charge if it is made by CHAPS.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We understand that electronic payment may not always be possible and you can of course continue to pay by cheque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">By cheque<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are paying by cheque please make the cheque payable to \u2018Open Doors with Brother Andrew\u2019 and send it to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Legacy Administrations<br>P.O. Box 6,<br>Witney<br>OX29 6WG<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will be really grateful if you can include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the full name and title of the deceased<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>their last address<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the date of death<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the executor\u2019s name and contact details<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a copy of the Will<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>any information about the reason for the legacy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also good practice for an executor to notify beneficiaries as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This will enable us to amend our charity\u2019s records and ensure that future mailings are not sent out to the deceased. Please contact legacy@opendoorsuk.org \/ 01993 460015<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Administering a gift<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In most cases we would prefer to receive the sale proceeds of property or shares gifted to Open Doors in a Will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tax<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Charities are generally&nbsp;exempt from inheritance tax. This means that gifts to Open Doors are ordinarily paid free of tax and are deducted from the estate before the tax is calculated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Charities are also exempt from capital gains tax so, if an asset is sold as \u2018bare trustee\u2019 for Open Doors, we can reclaim the tax. We can also reclaim income tax that has been deducted at source from income of the estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For information about tax on gifts in Wills, go to the HMRC website (UK) or the Office of the Revenue Commissioners (Republic of Ireland).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Charity details<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are a solicitor and have been asked to include a pecuniary or residuary gift to Open Doors in a Will, you may find the following wording helpful:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Open Doors with Brother Andrew&#8217; (a charity registered in England and Wales (1125684) and Scotland (SC043710) and Republic of Ireland (20140984)).
